The Story Behind the Picture

God’s people, the Israelites, had just been set free from slavery in Egypt — but Pharaoh’s army came charging after them. When the people reached the edge of the Red Sea, there was nowhere left to run. The deep water stretched out in front of them, and the soldiers thundered close behind.

Then God told Moses to stretch out his hand over the sea. A mighty wind blew all night long, and the waters split right down the middle, leaving a dry path between two great walls of sea. The Israelites walked safely across to the other side, and the Lord watched over them every single step of the way.

When there seemed to be no way forward, God made one. That is exactly what He still loves to do — and long afterward He opened the greatest way of all through Jesus, making a path to rescue and new life for everyone who trusts in Him.

“The Lord shall fight for you.” Exodus 14:14

Colour & Chat

While you colour, here are a few things to wonder about together:

  • The walls of water are full of fish — how many can you find swimming by?
  • Can you spot Moses holding up his staff, leading the way across?
  • When something feels impossible, remember that God can make a way where there seems to be none.

Print it, colour it, and let the Red Sea remind your family that God always makes a way.
