The Story Behind the Picture
Balaam set off on a journey riding his donkey — but he was going the wrong way, against what God had asked. So God sent an angel to stand in the road ahead.
Balaam could not see the angel, but his donkey could! Three times the donkey turned aside to keep her master safe, and three times Balaam grew cross with her. Then God did something amazing: He let the donkey speak, asking Balaam why he was being so unkind.
At last God opened Balaam’s eyes, and he saw the angel standing there. Balaam was very sorry. The story makes us smile — and reminds us that God can use anyone, or anything, to help us turn back to the right path.
