The Story Behind the Picture
Jacob was on a long journey, far from home. One night he lay down in the open country, rested his head on a stone for a pillow, and fell fast asleep.
As he slept, Jacob had a wonderful dream. He saw a great stairway reaching from the earth all the way up to heaven, with angels going up and down upon it. And there at the very top stood God Himself, who promised to be with Jacob and to bless him wherever he went.
When Jacob woke, he was filled with awe. “Surely God is in this place,” he said. Years later, Jesus said that He Himself is the true stairway between heaven and earth — the way to God for all of us. The dream reminds us that heaven is never as far away as it seems.
“Behold, I am with you, and will keep you wherever you go.” Genesis 28:15
