A shepherd boy, a gentle harp, and songs that calmed a king. Colour young David with this free printable Bible page for kids.
The Story Behind the Picture
Before David became a king, he was a young shepherd boy who looked after his father’s sheep in the fields. As he watched over them, he loved to play his harp and sing songs to God.
David’s music was so beautiful and peaceful that he was called to play for King Saul whenever the king felt troubled or sad. As David’s harp rang out, the king’s heart would grow calm and quiet again.
David’s songs became some of the Psalms we still read in the Bible today. And many years later, from David’s own family, Jesus the Saviour would be born. David shows us that even a young person, with a simple gift, can bring comfort to others and praise to God.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” Psalm 23:1
Colour & Chat
While you colour, here are a few things to wonder about together:
- David is playing a harp — can you count the strings?
- He sang to God out in the fields. What song or sound makes you feel happy and calm?
- Can you spot the little fish swimming in the stream nearby?
Print it, colour it, and let young David remind your family that every gift, however small, can be used to praise God.
