The Story Behind the Picture
After Jesus returned to heaven, His friends gathered together to wait and pray, just as He had told them to. They were not sure what would happen next, but they trusted His promise.
Suddenly a sound like a rushing wind filled the whole place, and what looked like little flames of fire came to rest on each of them. God’s Holy Spirit had come, just as Jesus had promised! Filled with joy and courage, they began to praise God.
From that day on, Jesus’ friends went out boldly to tell everyone the good news. This special day is called Pentecost — the day the church was born. God gives that same Holy Spirit to help and comfort His people still today.
“They were all filled with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:4
