A son who wandered far away, and a father who ran to welcome him home. Colour the Prodigal Son with this free printable Bible page for kids.
The Story Behind the Picture
Jesus told a story about a father who had two sons. The younger son asked for his share of everything and went off to a faraway land, where he spent it all and ended up with nothing, hungry and alone.
Sitting among the pigs, the young man finally thought of home. “I will go back to my father,” he said, “and tell him how sorry I am.” So he began the long journey home, not even sure his father would want him back.
But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming — and ran to meet him! He threw his arms around his son and hugged him tight, so glad to have him home. Jesus told this story to show that God is like that loving father, always watching the road, ready to welcome us back with open arms.
“While he was still far off, his father saw him, and ran to him.” Luke 15:20

While you colour, here are a few things to wonder about together:
- Can you see the father hugging his son who has come home?
- Look at the son’s torn clothes — where do you think he has been?
- The father ran to welcome his son. How does your family show love when someone comes home?
Print it, colour it, and let this happy reunion remind your family that God is always watching the road, ready to welcome us home.
